Nitpick, Nitpick Just Don't Focus On What's Really Important

I am slightly annoyed. I got into this discussion where one of the main parties is really anal. But about all the wrong things. Do you catch yourself doing this? Isn't it annoying when others do?
I see this alot with management at work. I don't know what shocks me more: the things they get bent out of shape over or the things they let slide. It is all ass backwards to me.
I wonder if this isn't some form of subtle laziness. Do we focus on minutia in an attempt to block out the Big Picture? I think of Steven Covey's Quadrants of Time Spent. Most people jump between the Urgent(but ultimately little importance) and Time Wasters Qs. Few focus on the things that are really important but rarely carry urgency. It's all ringing phones and "can you believe so and so".
We all have this need to be loved and to be reassured that we are loved in ways that are meaningful to us. Funny how this gets pushed to the back or loved ones express love in ways not meaningful or effective to us.
I don't know if that makes much sense.
Basically take some time today to make someone close to you feel loved in a way that is meaningful TO THAT PERSON. Forget the little annoyances
